Ok. Here's the old 350 2bbl, rated at about 200hp.Sure it looks clean and all, but let's face it, it's not the muscle this muscle car needs.

Sakes alive! There's alota room in there, once you pull all the "little things" out.

And out she comes! Anybody need a slightly used 350?
How 'bout a PowerGlide? I even got an extra HEI distributor.

And here's the new GM Performance 350 H.O. Deluxe. How you see it on the stand is how it comes out of the crate. Complete, Air filter to Oil filter. Take a 4-bolt main small block, add cast iron Vortec heads, cast aluminum pistons and a complimenting cam, and you have a 9.1:1 long block. Then add an aluminum dual plane intake with a 600cfm Holley and a 14" chrome air cleaner. Then dress it out with an HEI distributor, water pump, chrome valve covers, 8" balancer, AT flexplate, GMPP plug wires, thermostat with housing, and a dipstick.
HP: 330 - Torque: 380 ft.lbs.

It's almost ready to go in! The original exhaust manifolds were sandblasted and given a coat of Eastwood paint. The torque converter that came with the Turbo 350 was for a 14" flywheel, so a new torque converter with a slightly higher stall was put in. Since the '68 didn't come with a long leg water pump, a Summit High flow pump was installed in place to maintain the stock pulley positions.

Hey! It's in!
Now to hook everything up.

Here's the finished product. The only significant issue with this installation was the need to modify the lower PS pump bracket. The old motor had a 6 3/4" balancer, and this one has an 8" balancer. Approx. 1/2"-3/4" was cut off the end and welded back into the middle of the bracket to offer a little extra stiffness.
